There are some promotions that you want your customers to use as many times as they like and shout about from the rooftops, such as ‘Happy Hour: Get £5 off orders on Wednesdays 5-6pm’!
But in other cases, you may wish your promotion to only be made available a certain number of times to a specific group of customers, such as ‘VIP Customer: £10 off your next booking in January with this code’. So how can you avoid customers sharing your voucher and using it more than once?
There are a number of security options available to help you control the way your vouchers can be used:
Terms and Conditions
Stating terms and conditions on your voucher is a simple and effective way to prevent customers from using your voucher more than once. We recommend having the expiry date of the voucher and how many times it can be used as a minimum.
The Advertising Standards Authority’s guide to promotional marketing terms and conditions gives comprehensive advice on what your terms and conditions need to include https://www.asa.org.uk/advice-online/promotional-marketing-terms-and-conditions-tcs.html
Maximum per Customer
Set a specific number of times your voucher can be claimed per customer. iVoucher has a Maximum per Customer setting which means that after a customer has submitted their email address a certain number of times, a message will be displayed saying the maximum number of claims has been reached and they will no longer be able to claim the voucher.
Maximum Voucher Quantity
Set a total amount of vouchers that can be claimed in total. This is ideal if you are looking to run a high value promotion or flash sale that you only offer to your first 100 customers for example.
iVoucher has a Maximum per Customer setting which means that after a certain number of customers have claimed the voucher, the voucher will end and customers will no longer be able to claim the voucher.
Voucher Code Type
Multi-use codes: Ideal for vouchers that can be shared freely, used multiple times, and do not require a code to be entered at point of sale in order to apply the discount.
Unique codes: Ideal for vouchers that you do not want customers to be able to share freely and may require a code to be entered at point of sale in order to apply the discount. With iVoucher you can choose to use our randomly generated voucher codes, or you can upload your own set of voucher codes and iVoucher will automatically apply a different code to each voucher claim.
QR Codes / Barcodes
QR Codes / Barcodes are a great way to prevent customers sharing your voucher with other people, because they will need to share the image as well as the code. With iVoucher you can easily add a QR code or barcode to your voucher.
Always assess the amount of risk to your business before deciding how many controls to put in place over your voucher – you don’t want to prevent people from using the voucher for the sake of one or two people who attempt to claim multiple times.
If your voucher is being used in-store, always brief your staff so that they understand the terms and conditions of the voucher and how to deal with anybody trying to claim a voucher multiple times.
